How Much Will My Street Cost?

We collaborated with another engineering firm to build this tool that can approximate the cost of common components of streets.  This way you can more easily discern the incremental cost of various items, and debate the pros and cons with a reasonable ballpark estimate in mind.  Take this “with a grain of salt,” as there is no way a tool like this can account for regional differences, specific corridor challenges, or even “small tweaks” such as restriping efforts.

When depicting existing roadways, cost is best understood as “replacement cost”  (i.e., what would it take to build today's cross section, as if it were a new street?)

If you think it is inaccurate or simply don't want to display, click the checkbox above to turn it off.

How Do You Use It?

Values are calculated based on the length of your project defined in the title bar, the width of the item, features you have selected, and other user defined attributes.  Click on a value such as "$240k" and it will bring up a dialog where you can see how it works and make adjustments.  The "U" in blue on the left is the cost of Utilities.  The "T" in blue on the right is the Total of all items, including utilities.  K on the end means "Thousands of dollars."  M is for millions.  As you make changes to materials, trees, and other features, costs will often update, but click it to double check!
